Guest & Spouse Walking Tour
2:30 p.m. Dec. 1
The best way to discover downtown Austin’s historic treasures is on foot. When you take this historic walking tour, you’ll follow in the footsteps of governors and presidents, cattle barons and bankers, merchants and artists, and maybe a ghost or two.
The 10-block Congress Avenue National Register District is the Main Street of Texas with its wide, impressive route to the Capitol Building. Threads of the past are intricately woven into the fabric of the city’s future as faithfully restored 19th century buildings coexist with gleaming, 20th century high-rises.
While Congress Avenue may be the heart of Austin, 6th Street is its vibrant, colorful soul. The nine-block 6th Street National Register District showcases a wealth of preserved Victorian commercial architecture, dating back to the last three decades of the 19th century. These historic structures on 6th Street, Congress Avenue and adjacent streets play a vital role in Austin’s revitalized downtown.
The tour, which will take approximately 90 minutes to complete, will depart from the CSG Registration/Information Desk at the Hilton Austin at 2:30 p.m. and will be limited to the first 20 participants. Guests/spouses must be registered conference attendees in order to participate in the walking tour.
