Moderated by the CSG immediate-past chair, Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris, the roundtable will bring together public- and private-sector leaders, including Mars Petcare North America President Mark Johnson, working on these important issues and finding success for the state of Tennessee.

Randy Boyd
Commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development
Boyd leads the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, which is responsible for recruiting business and industry to the state as well as the state’s overall economic growth. Prior to joining TNECD, Boyd founded Radio Systems Corporation. The company produces more than 4,600 pet products under brand names such as Invisible Fence, PetSafe and SportDOG. Boyd serves on numerous boards: chairman of Radio Systems Corporation; EDP BioTech, a bio-science company doing cancer and DNA research; and Boyd Sports LLC, owner of the Tennessee Smokies Baseball team, an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Mark Johnson
President, Mars Petcare US (Broadly Distributed Brands)
As president of the Broadly Distributed Brands, or BDB Division, for Mars Petcare US, Johnson is responsible for overseeing the strategy and execution of the branded and private label businesses in the U.S. for the world’s largest pet care company. His focus is on driving long-term, sustainable growth focusing on key brands such as PEDIGREE® food for dogs, IAMS® brand pet food, SHEBA® premium cat food, CESAR® food for dogs, DENTASTIX® treats for dogs and  TEMPTATIONS® cat treats in the critical U.S. market. Johnson joined Mars in 1987 as a graduate trainee at Mars Petcare UK, followed by roles in sales and marketing within the UK and across Europe.


Senator Mark Norris
Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris represents Tennessee’s 32nd District, which is comprised of the eastern part of Shelby County and all of Tipton County. He was first elected to the Senate in 2000 and as majority leader by his peers in 2007. Norris has been named “Legislator of the Year” ten times in the past ten years by various organizations in recognition of his efforts for toughening sentences for violent offenders and amending the constitution to provide property tax relief for seniors. He is an attorney with the firm of Adams and Reese LLC and a farmer. He represents Tennessee’s 32nd District, which is comprised of five of the suburban municipalities of Shelby County, portions of Memphis, unincorporated Shelby County, and all of Tipton County. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee and is a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Ethics Committee, and State and Local Government Committee. Sen. Norris previously served as chair of The Council of State Governments’ Southern Legislative Conference and is immediate past national chair of CSG.
