Transmission Line Siting Compact
The Energy Act of 2005 granted states advance congressional consent to create regional interstate compacts governing the siting of interstate transmission lines. Several attempts—notably in the central Midwest and the Pacific Northwest—have been made to create multi-state consensus around the issue and drive toward an interstate compact; to date no such agreements have been adopted on a wide basis.
Status: The Transmission Line Site Compact language is drafted and ready for legislative consideration. Below please find legislative resources, as well as background materials and additional resources. For more information about the compact please contact Crady deGolian at cdegolian@csg.org.
