About CSG

A message from the Executive Director

As states take on more responsibilities, they are finding that it pays to share resources, strategies and ideas for doing all that needs to be done. One resource that states have counted on since 1933 is The Council of State Governments.

Leaders know they can't succeed if they work in isolation. That's why state leaders in pursuit of legislative and executive excellence turn to CSG, the only multi-branch state association.

Changes at the federal level mean states will be doing more; taxpayer concerns means states will be doing it with less. You can turn to CSG for help in responding to this crucial challenge.

Citizens don't want states to build bureaucracies to replace federal bureaucracies; CSG can help you work smarter by taking advantage of leadership training, research and information products, and regional problem-solving activities.

To assist states with multi-state and regional solutions, CSG maintains offices throughout the country that staff regional associations of legislative and executive elected officials.

CSG helps states increase efficiency by identifying the best new and creative approaches to significant state problems in our Innovations Awards. Our information products are full of useful and practical policy solutions. In addition, CSG draws upon experts in the states, and marshals them as consultants to help sister states in need of services. And CSG's leadership training helps state officials enhance their skills in managing strategic change.

We at The Council of State Governments are proud of our long history of support to the states. Please feel free to call us at (859) 244-8000 should your state need more information about our services or products.

Dan Sprague,

Executive Director
