New Public Health Web Site Goes Online
Members of the media are invited to visit and bookmark the Healthy States Web site at: healthystates.csg.org. The site contains critical information and resources, notices about upcoming Web conferences and events and the inside information journalists need to give their stories a unique edge. Additional resources include free newsletters and a conference calendar. Of special interest to the media this month is a March 31st Web conference: Prevention Works: Promising Strategies for Heart Healthy and Stroke-Free States. This free event is designed to offer policy-makers concrete advice on heart disease and stroke prevention strategies including an in-depth look at North Carolina's ground-breaking efforts in this area. Speakers include: North Carolina State Sen. William R. Purcell, Chairman of the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force. Elizabeth (Libby) Puckett, Executive Director, North Carolina's Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force. Darwin Labarthe, M.D., Associate Director of Cardiovascular Health Policy and Research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We invite the media to attend: Click here for more information or click here to register. The Web site is a component of CSG's Healthy States Initiative which began last fall. The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) are partners in the initiative's activities described in this website. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO) and the American Public Health Association (APHA) are advisors to the project. Funding for CSG's Healthy States Initiative is provided by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cooperative agreement. Links to more information about our partners can be found on the Web site. ### The Council of State Governments is the premier organization in forecasting policy trends for state leaders – executive, legislative and judicial decision maker.
