Colorado Rep. Nancy Todd Elected Vice Chair of CSG West

At its annual meeting July 23, members of the Executive Committee of The Council of State Governments West unanimously elected Representative Nancy Todd (D-Aurora) as Vice-Chair for the coming year.
Her term will begin in December 2012, and she will be in line to become chair of the organization in 2015. Rep. Todd’s election makes her one of CSG West’s four top officers. As an officer of the organization, Rep. Todd will have a strategic role in the advancement of CSG West’s objectives, including programmatic and budget oversight.
CSG West is a nonprofit association of state legislators of both parties from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The association promotes excellence in state legislatures through regional cooperation, sharing of best practices and professional development. CSG West is the Western region of the Lexington, Kentucky-based national Council of State Governments, which has regional offices in Sacramento, Chicago, New York and Atlanta.
The current chair of CSG West, Wyoming Rep. Rosie Berger, noted, “Rep. Todd embodies the kind of pragmatic leadership that CSG West values so highly. She works across the aisle and reaches out to bring in the best policy ideas from lawmakers from all 13 Western states.”
Todd distinguished herself in recent years by serving as vice chair and then chair of the CSG West Education Committee. She organized forums on such topics as education technology and preparation of students for post-graduation success in advanced education and in the world of work.
In 2006, Todd was selected for CSG West’s prestigious Western Legislative Academy for outstanding newer lawmakers. In 2009, she became a national CSG Toll Fellow. Toll Fellows represent “the best and brightest” state officials in the nation. Todd is a staunch supporter of women in politics at CSG West forums and other legislative venues. In 2011, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce named her “Woman of the Year.”
In the Colorado Legislature, Rep. Todd is the ranking member of the State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee, as well as the Education Committee. Rep. Todd was a professional educator for 25 years in the Cherry Creek School District.
