Common Core State Standards Policy Workshop:
Implications for Adoption and Implementation
Monday, Dec.6 | 2-5 p.m.
As a state policymaker, you will confront many challenges associated with the adoption and implementation of the Common Core State Standards Initiative in your state. In an effort to engage state leaders, CSG is conducting a special policy workshop concerning the academic and fiscal implications of adoption and implementation of the common state standards.
CSG has held similar discussions with policymakers around the country, and it's clear there is both a great deal of misinformation and uncertainty about what common core state standards will mean for states and local school districts as well as what steps are critical for successful implementation. Through this meeting, CSG will facilitate a discussion of the issues associated with adoption and implementation in your state helping you in your future decision making.
As a policymaker, you are an important part of this dialogue. We encourage your attendance and invite you to participate in this discussion.
The goals of this policy workshop are to:
-
Explore the extent to which the Common Core State Standards advance the goal of equipping students with the skills needed to graduate with success and with the skills to reach their full potential;
-
Provide participants with an opportunity to engage in a discussion about the merits of Common Core State Standards;
-
Examine potential future implications for state legislatures if common standards are adopted;
-
Encourage collaboration between state legislatures and executive branch education officials on state actions to be addressed regarding the standards; and
-
Provide policymakers with the opportunity to forge ties and build relationships both within their state as well as with their regional counterparts serving on legislative education committees.
