Deputy Executive Director and Washington Office Director
Chris Whatley first joined CSG in 2000 as Director of International Affairs and was promoted to his current position as
as Deputy Executive Director and Washington Office Director
in 2008. He serves as a voice for states in Washington, DC and is responsible for overseeing CSG's federal advocacy and international outreach.
Since the beginning of the Great Recession, he has led a rapid response effort to provide analysis to state leaders on the fiscal implications of the Recovery Act (the “stimulus”), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Small Business Jobs Act, the Budget Control Act and other major legislation affecting state budgets.
Whatley has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and C-SPAN, and is quoted frequently in the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and a variety of regional newspapers. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Angelo State University and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
