Proposal 1 - Initiative to Allow Under State Law the Medical Use of Marijuana

Summary: Would allow those with a debilitating medical condition to use marijuana with their doctors' approval; permit qualifying patients or their caregivers to grow their own marijuana for their medical use, with limits on the amount they could possess; would require the Department of Commnity Health to create a registry of qualified patients, complete with ID cards; and would allow patients and their caregivers who are arrested to discuss their medical use in court.

Proposal 2 - A Proposal to Amend the Constitution to Address Human Stem Cell Research

Summary: The amendment would allow human embryos to be used for research permitted under federal law as long as they: are created for fertility treatment purposes. are not suitable for implantation or are in excess of clinical needs; would be discarded unless used for research, or were donated by the person seeking fertility treatment. Provides that stem cells can't be taken from human embyros more than 14 days after cell division begins; prohibits any person from selling or purchasing human embryos for stem cell research, therapies or cures; and prohibits state laws that prevent, restrict or discourage stem cell research, therapies or cures.
