FYI: Symposium on Federalism
Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams, the 2010 chair of The Council of State Governments, will be a panelist during a discussion about redefining the state and federal relationship during a symposium on federalism, pre-emption and state law Oct. 29.
The Uniform Law Commission and George Washington University Law School are co-sponsoring the symposium at the George Washington University Law School, in Washington, D.C. There is no fee to attend, but registration deadline is Oct.15.
The symposium is co-sponsored by a number other national organizations including CSG, the Conference of Chief Justices, the National Center for State Courts, the National Governors Association, the National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Association of Attorneys General, an affiliate of CSG.
The general purpose of the symposium is to explore the roles of the federal and state governments in areas of shared responsibility. One objective is to begin a dialogue among representatives of federal, state and local governments, and other entities such as the Uniform Law Commission that are interested in the intersection of and balance between state and federal regulation in areas of shared federal/state interest.
