Midwestern Governors Tackle Jobs & Energy Initiatives

The name of the game is jobs in a green economy.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will host Midwestern governors at a special summit aimed at “Creating Jobs in a New Energy Economy” in Detroit Oct. 6-7. That’s been Granholm’s agenda as chair of the Midwestern Governors Association this year.
The summit will highlight MGA’s work to date on its jobs and energy initiatives.
The summit will include a governors’ roundtable discussion on opportunities and challenges posed by the new energy economy, a panel of international political and business leaders discussing their insights on energy-based jobs, the signing of the MGA’s Jobs Platform and the Energy Infrastructure Accord and the release of the MGA’s Energy Roadmap.
The Jobs Platform, Infrastructure Accord and the MGA Roadmap all lay out real-world policy options for the governors to undertake to reach significant, regional goals in energy efficiency, advanced coal with carbon capture and storage, renewable electricity, bioeconomy and transportation.
The summit’s work will lay out new goals for the governors to reach in those areas, according to the MGA.
Work from the summit will help provide a sound basis to position the Midwest as a leader for jobs and energy, capitalizing on Midwestern resources such as coal, a burgeoning biofuel industry, geological formations for carbon sequestration, a manufacturing base and cutting-edge academic institutions, according to the MGA.
Registration is now open for the upcoming the MGA Jobs and Energy Summit, Oct. 6–7 in Detroit. Register now for the summit.
