That’s a wrap on SLC 2023! 

What a historic and amazing Southern Legislative Conference that was! Our final numbers have come in; more than 2,000 legislators, families, and affiliates came together in Charleston, South Carolina, for the largest SLC in history. We can’t express how thankful we are for the continuous support from our host state as well as the small army of volunteers and legislative staffers who helped make this conference wonderful! Thank you, South Carolina!  

Our office is buzzing and excited for the upcoming months and events ahead. At CSG South, we are consistently upholding the standard of outstanding professional development, insightful policy masterclasses, and powerful publications that bring hours of research into your hands. In the months to come, we have three Policy Masterclasses as well as our two signature leadership development programs – the Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) and its staffer parallel, the Staff Academy for Governmental Excellence (SAGE). Additionally, our policy team is working on creating new publications with regionally focused data and analysis to provide you and your office with knowledge on key matters.  

We hope that you have enjoyed your summer, and we can’t wait to see all the great work you continue to do in your communities.

Each and every member of the CSG Staff team, from accounting to our event planners to policy and marketing, has pulled in hundreds of hours of planning and attending to the thousands of details that, when combined together, have created the largest (more than 2500 attendees) Southern Legislative Conference to date. However, we could never pull it off without the tireless work and vision of our host state leadership. To the staff and legislative leaders in South Carolinawho make SLC 2023 possible, we continue to thank you and can’t wait to help you showcase all your beautiful state has to offer.

GREETINGS MEMBERS, 

The first months of Spring are flying by as the clock ticks closer to our annual Southern Legislative Conference in Charleston, SC! If you have not registered already, the time is now – early bird registration ends May 19.

That’s a wrap on 2023 State Visits! This month, the CSG South team concluded our annual state visits with Nashville, Tennessee (April 11-12), Baton Rouge, Louisiana (April 18-20), and last but certainly not least, Montgomery, Alabama (April 25-26). We were busy meeting with members, fielding policy requests, and connecting with newly elected and first-term officials.

Finally, we are sending out an all-call: Around our region, state agencies, and officials are working hard to find innovative solutions to improve customer service, address policy challenges, and save taxpayer dollars while providing for the needs of citizens. As we move closer to awarding the State in Transformation in Action Recognition (STAR) award, presented during the Annual Meeting, the search continues for programs that exemplify innovative qualities. GREETINGS MEMBERS, 

Now mid-way through March, a few of our member states are approaching the final days and hours of the legislative session. For those of you nearing sine die, we hope this month brings good luck both within and beyond your chambers. As for our remaining March state visit roster, we just wrapped up North Carolina (March 14-15) and next week we move on to South Carolina (March 28-30). We still have TN, LA, and AL in our sights for April! 

Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) planning continues to steam ahead, and we are rapidly finalizing our conference schedule. Guest and Youth programming has seen overwhelming interest, and we have made the decision to expand our offsite guest activities! As hundreds of our members continue to register for SLC, please continue to check back on our website to enroll in Guest and Youth programs as they expand. Finally, don’t forget to apply for the State Transformation in Action Recognition (STAR) Award.  The winner will be honored at the closing state dinner at SLC in gorgeous Charleston, SC!
