Service with Civility
The Service with Civility Project is the 2025 CSG National Chair Leadership Initiative, led by Illinois Sen. Elgie Sims. It invites state leaders across the country to make a public commitment to lead with civility, serve with intention, and recognize others who do the same.
Through this project, leaders commit to act with integrity, compassion and honesty in their service—and to share stories that inspire others to follow their example.
How it Works:
- Make the Commitment – Make the commitment to serve with civility at the form below.
- Get Your Civility Box – After you make the commitment, you will receive a Service with Civility box at your submitted address. The box is designed to make it easy to keep the conversation about civility going.
- Recognize a Colleague – Use the Civility in Action peer award card in your box to honor someone you’ve seen demonstrate civility in their work.
- Share Your Story – Send us a short note, photo or video describing the recognition at [email protected]. Your story may be featured in our Voices of Civility series online, on social media and at CSG events.

Service with Civility Commitment
I am honored to unite with state officials across America in a shared commitment to elevate civility in public life.
I commit:
- To lead by example, holding myself accountable to a higher standard of public discourse.
- To act with integrity, compassion and honesty.
- To treat everyone with respect and dignity.
- To listen and learn from those with whom I disagree.
- To reject political violence in all its forms.
- To work together with others to strengthen our democracy and uphold the ideals upon which our nation was founded.
