Southern Pulse Newsletter, June 2022

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.”

When watching the CSG South team hard at work preparing for the largest regional conference of the year, H.E. Luccock’s quote always comes to mind. Since concluding our final state visit for 2022 on June 8 (until next time, North Carolina!) each and every member, from accounting and graphic design to policy and marketing, has pulled in hundreds of hours of planning, event building, and attending to the thousands of last-minute details that, when combined together, create the preeminent forum for Southern legislators and staff. Even still, with host states rotating every year, we could never pull it off without the tireless work and vision of state leadership. To the staff and legislative leaders in Oklahoma who make SLC 2022 possible, we continue to thank you and can’t wait to help you showcase all your beautiful state has to offer.

See you at the 2022 SLC in OKC!!

All the best,
Lindsey

Southern Pulse Newsletter, May 2022

With only one state visit left to go, four full months of nonstop travel for our team is nearly behind us. North Carolina, we can’t wait to see you next month!

We are proud to host the largest regional conference of legislative leaders in the nation and we know Oklahoma City is ready for our 76th Annual Meeting!  Our small but mighty team has laid out for you robust and engaging policy sessions, ranging from an analysis of global energy consumption trends, teacher shortages, mental illness in our communities, and innovations in farming across the region – and that’s only the beginning. As we finalize speakers, check back on our website for a full schedule of our government staff tracks, evening activities, and site visit locations. The deadline for early-bird registration is next week, May 26.  Click here so you don’t miss it!

As critical as these conversations are to have, it’s not only policy that happens at SLC! Our partners in Oklahoma have woven together one of the most exciting Guest and Youth programs to date! Packed into four days, there are two thrilling (and often, educational) tracks for your families and other non-legislative guests. For youth ages 6-17, we will have trips to the Science Museum, RIVERSPORT (the official US Paralympic Training site), the OKC Zoo, and the OKC Dodgers baseball stadium! For guests aged 18+, options will include the History of Oklahoma Tour, Historic Stockyards City, Nostalgic OKC track, and much more – including a reflective and timely visit and lunch with Oklahoma City Bombing survivors.

From our CSG South family to yours, we thank you for your public service, and can’t wait to see you at the Southern Legislative Conference!

Warmest Regards,
Lindsey

Southern Pulse Newsletter, April 2022

April showers have not dampened our stride here at CSG South. The early spring months are making way for summer heat as the clock blazes nearer to our annual Southern Legislative Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! If you have not registered already, the time is now – early bird registration ends May 26. To register for SLC, please follow this link. To look at the brochure, including the schedule of events and important deadlines, please visit here.

While we continue to process registrants and fine-tune events for the Annual Meeting, state visits are still fully underway! This month, the CSG South team flew to mighty Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the “modern gateway” itself and 2022 host of the SLC, Oklahoma, to meet with members to discuss their concerns, field policy requests, and connect with newly elected officials.

In truth, a large part of our work during state visits is grounded in those very policy research requests members like you have for our team, and we love to dive right in! Since January 1, our policy analysts have received nearly 100 information requests, ranging from creative solutions to addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, tax cuts/reforms, to policy solutions to mitigate workforce shortages. We encourage all members to leverage our extensive network and internal expertise – during and after – your legislative sessions.

As always, we thank you for your continued hard work representing your constituents, and we wish you the best of luck in the busy weeks ahead.

Southern Pulse Newsletter, March 2022

As a legislator, March can be one of the busiest times for you and your team as budgets are finalized, bills are shuttled out of committees, and the crescendo towards your sine die gets nearer. We hope you are taking time out of your days to pause, breathe, and remember the constituents you fight for every day. Across the South, we thank you for your dedication and service.

This month, four more wonderful states were up for a visit from our CSG South team. Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, and South Carolina, we come prepared with answers to your questions and friendly faces eager to get you what you need. Feel free to stop us in the halls and say, “Hi” if we haven’t already scheduled a meeting.

Here at the CSG South headquarters, Spring has arrived and it’s not just the warm weather that’s heating up our office – it’s the official launch of our brand-new website! Complete with a cleaner interface, easily navigable menus, and full information on all our past policy resources and future developments, we’re proud to present our online glow-up. Be sure to check it out at csgsouth.org.  We hope you love it!

With a new website, comes the official opening of the 2022 Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) registration – and we are thrilled to see those registrations rolling in!

CSG South Chairman and Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat and his incredible staff have been hard at work curating a bold and unique SLC 2022 experience. We can’t wait to join them in just a few short months as a part of our April state visits, and then again in July for the biggest regional legislative conference in the nation- SLC 2022.

As always, we thank all our members for the long hours they put in each and every day for their communities. If you have any questions or need assistance, our team is ready to help.
